AAUP Censured Administrations

A complete list of administrations currently under censure by the AAUP appears at the back of each issue of JFP, together with the date of imposition of the censure.

Investigations by the American Association of University Professors of the administrations of the institutions listed below show that, as evidenced by a past violation, they are not observing the generally recognized principles of academic freedom and tenure endorsed by this Association, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and more than 180 other professional and educational organizations. The 1940 Statement of Principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure may be found on the AAUP Web site, www.aaup.org.

Censure was removed from:

Tulane University
University of New Haven (CT)
Loyola University, New Orleans

Institutions are listed in chronological order according to when their administrations were placed on the censure list. The list contains only administrations which are still under censure (many others have been removed from the list after improving their practices and procedures). "Academe citation" refers to the issue in which a report about the institution appeared in Academe: Bulletin of the AAUP (formerly called the AAUP Bulletin). In rare cases, a supplemental report has been issued after the initial report.
