The Program Committee for the 2013 APA Central Division meeting would like to invite all interested members to submit their names as possible commentators or chairs for submitted paper sessions at the 2013 meeting, which will be in New Orleans, Feb. 20-23, 2013. We need commentators and chairs for Colloquium papers and also for submitted Symposium sessions. Colloquium papers are limited to 20 minutes' presentation time, and commentators are asked to limit their remarks to approximately 10 minutes. Colloquium sessions consist of either two or three papers, each allocated one hour for the author's presentation, commentary, response, and discussion. For at least the last half century, the Central Division's practice has been to assign a separate session chair to each of the papers in a colloquium session. Submitted Symposium sessions are two hours in length and consist of a paper (about 40 minutes' presentation time) and a commentary (limited to 20 minutes), followed by author's reply and discussion. Relatively few submitted Symposia are accepted for presentation. The Program Committee is now in the process of evaluating the submitted papers and will be making its acceptance decisions at the beginning of August. Program Committee members will begin seeking commentators and chairs for the submitted papers in mid-August; the process normally continues until the beginning of October. Members who would like to volunteer as commentators or chairs should send an email message to Robin Smith <rasmith@apacentral.org> giving the following information:
Name
Email address
Whether interested in commenting, chairing, or both
Areas of interest
Optionally, a URL to a home page or CV In order to be of most use to the 2013 Program Committee, this information will need to reach me by the first week of August.
Please note the following policies of the Division: (1) Normally, each participant in the program is limited to one appearance on the main program (i.e., those sessions organized by the Program Committee). A very few exceptions to this policy are made for session chairs. Thus, while you may ask to be considered both as a commentator and as a session chair, (2) If you have submitted a paper for the 2013 Central Division program, and if your paper is not accepted, you will automatically be considered as a possible commentator or chair. You're welcome to volunteer anyway, of course, but since the Program Committee operates under a policy of strict blind review, please *do not* include the information that you've submitted a paper when volunteering. (3) The APA unfortunately is not able to cover the travel or accommodation costs of program participants. With best wishes, Robin Smith, Secretary-Treasurer APA Central Division <rasmith@apacentral.org>
