Policy Prohibiting Reimbursement for Facilities and Administrative Costs

THE AMERICAN PHILOSOPHICAL ASSOCIATION

A Pennsylvania Non-Profit Corporation

Policy Prohibiting Reimbursement for Facilities and Administrative Costs

General

The American Philosophical Association is a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation founded in 1900 to promote the exchange of ideas among philosophers, to encourage creative and scholarly activity in philosophy, to facilitate the professional work and teaching of philosophers, and to represent philosophy as a discipline.

The American Philosophical Association periodically awards grants to educational institutions and universities (together, “Universities” and each individually a “University”) for projects intended to promote the Association’s objectives.

From time to time, Universities have attempted to charge the American Philosophical Association with Facilities and Administration Costs, as defined in subsection B.4 of Appendix A to 2 CFR part 220, in connection with grants to their Universities.

However, the American Philosophical Association is not a Federal agency and therefore should not be assessed any Facilities and Administrative Costs.

Policy

The American Philosophical Association is not a Federal agency. Accordingly, no grants awarded by the American Philosophical Association shall be subject to Facilities and Administrative Costs, as defined in subsection B.4 of Appendix A to 2 CFR part 220, or as otherwise defined by any University. A grant by the American Philosophical Association to any University shall be conditioned upon such University’s agreement not to charge the American Philosophical Association any Facilities and Administrative Costs in connection with such grant. Furthermore, the American Philosophical Association reserves the right to withdraw a grant from any University that attempts to charge Facilities and Administrative Costs after a grant is awarded.

Questions relating to this policy should be directed to David Schrader, Executive Director, at (302) 831-1112.
