Governance: Data Task Force

The data task force was created in 2016. The charge of the data task force is to assess the feasibility of the data collection projects identified as top priorities by the committee on the status and future of the profession.

In order of priority, the data collection projects are:

  1. Data on effective strategies for increasing diversity in philosophy (e.g., diversity institutes, syllabus changes)
  2. Data on the “state of the profession” (e.g., data on philosophy jobs, tenure, funding, departments, interdisciplinary)
  3. Individual- and department-level data on placement of philosophy degree holders
  4. Data on undergraduate philosophy programs (e.g., course offerings, degrees awarded, faculty productivity, demographics, number of majors)
  5. Data on graduate philosophy programs (e.g., course offerings, degrees awarded, faculty, students, specialties, demographics, placement records)
  6. Data on contingent faculty in philosophy (e.g., numbers, pay rates)
