Governance: Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion

At its November 2013 meeting, the APA board of officers authorized the board chair to appoint a task force focusing on issues of diversity and inclusiveness in the profession. The membership of that task force is as follows:

  • Lawrence Blum, University of Massachusetts Boston
  • Teresa Blankmeyer Burke, Gallaudet University
  • Peggy DesAutels, University of Dayton
  • A. J. Kreider, Miami-Dade College
  • Mickaella Perina, University of Massachusetts Boston
  • Anita Silvers, San Francisco State University
  • Ronald Sundstrom, University of San Francisco
  • Kenneth Taylor, Stanford University
  • Anne Waters, American Indian Philosophy Association
  • Robin Zheng, University of Michigan (graduate student)

The Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion aims to identify problems faced by the discipline in advancing inclusion and equitable treatment of historically underrepresented groups at all levels of philosophical pursuit, and to suggest policies that can effectively address these problems.

The task force will also look in particular at the APA’s seven diversity committees and make recommendations to support their continued and improved functioning and efficacy.

The task force will report to the board of officers in November 2014.
