Attendees of the APA Pacific Division meeting at the Westin Seattle this week may encounter a labor action outside the meeting hotel. The labor action is directed toward PSAV, an audiovisual service provider the Westin and other hotels contract with for events, including the APA meeting. The action protests PSAV's treatment of its workers in Seattle, who unionized in 2015 and have been trying to bargain a contract with PSAV.

The APA learned of this labor action only today, after arriving on-site for the meeting. In contracting for meetings, the APA has a longstanding practice of selecting unionized hotels. As such, upon learning of the action, we immediately reached out to the labor organizers and the hotel's leadership. The labor organizers have asked only that we communicate our awareness of their concerns to the Westin, and we have done so. We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the APA meeting goes forward smoothly while also respecting the labor action. We encourage APA attendees who wish to learn more about the action to speak with the organizers outside the Westin Seattle.
