On behalf of the APA’s Committee on the Status of Women (CSW), I’m writing to alert you to a new philosophy archive project dedicated to the Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP), an organization with which CSW regularly collaborates. The archive will contain a historical record of SWIP’s activities and concerns, which will be available to scholars in every discipline, future generations of philosophy students, and the general public.
In collaboration with the Feminist Theory Archive at Brown University, SWIP welcomes material related to the history of this important grassroots philosophy organization. Examples of the types of material being sought include documents relating to the formation and governance of SWIP and its divisions, meeting agendas and minutes, conference materials, correspondence between members relating to SWIP activities, and photographs from SWIP events.
Learn more about the SWIP Records Collection and how to make donations.
For over four decades, SWIP has functioned as a "laboratory” for philosophical engagements that have transformed and diversified the projects and processes of the discipline of philosophy. This work has also made significant contributions to the development of feminist thinking in other fields, and to intellectual history and public policy more generally.
Thank you for supporting this important initiative!
