The American Philosophical Association is beginning the process of identifying a successor to our long-time treasurer, Stephanie Lewis. This is an excellent opportunity for service to a nonprofit organization and to the profession and discipline of philosophy.
According to the APA bylaws, the treasurer is nominated by the chair of the board and appointed by vote of the board for a three-year, renewable term. The treasurer is responsible for reviewing the financial records of the national office and the three divisions of the APA, the investments and investment policies of the board, and the annual audit.
The treasurer serves as a member of the finance committee and of the chair’s council and attends four quarterly board meetings each year (one in person and three via teleconference). In order to vote at board meetings, the treasurer must be a regular member of the association; however, membership in the APA is not a requirement of the position. The treasurer is a volunteer position.
The full position description is available on the APA website.
Those interested in the position, and those who wish to suggest a potential candidate to be considered for the position, should contact APA executive director Amy Ferrer at [email protected].
