The American Philosophical Association (APA) and the Philosophy Documentation Center (PDC) jointly sponsor the Prize for Excellence and Innovation in Philosophy Programs. This prize recognizes philosophy departments, research centers, institutes, societies, publishers, or other organizations that risk undertaking new initiatives in philosophy, and do so with excellence and success. It honors the success of these programs so they may inspire and influence others to follow their lead.
The APA and the PDC are pleased to announce that the 2015 winner of the APA/PDC Prize for Excellence and Innovation in Philosophy Programs is Rethink: A Philosophy Community Outreach Program at Columbia University. Congratulations to all involved with this great program!
The award will be presented at the 2016 Eastern Division meeting in Washington, DC.
For more information on this prize and for a list of previous winners, please visit the APA’s website and/or the PDC’s website.
Rethink is a community outreach program that promotes engagement with philosophical subject matter outside a traditional academic context. Partnering with organizations based in Harlem and the Financial District, volunteers lead discussion workshops on topics such as power, authority, epistemic justification, testimony, decision-making, responsibility, authenticity, punishment, racism, and equality.
