Important reminder about APA Eastern hotel reservations

There are two weeks remaining to get the early bird discount on registration for the APA Eastern Division meeting in Washington, DC! After December 23, all registration rates will increase by $50.
If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment today to reserve your room at the Marriott Wardman Park.
It’s critically important that APA meeting attendees stay at the Marriott Wardman Park rather than other nearby hotels. The Marriott provides the APA with meeting space and other services on the expectation that we will fill hotel rooms. If not enough APA attendees stay at the meeting hotel, the APA will owe the hotel tens of thousands of dollars in fees—dollars we could otherwise spend on critical programs serving philosophers and philosophy.
Last year, we paid a significant fee to the meeting hotel for empty sleeping rooms—not because the conference was poorly attended, but because 20% of our registrants stayed at other hotels. Had those attendees stayed at the conference hotel, we would not have paid that fee.
This year, we have 20% more people registered to attend the Eastern meeting than this time last year, but 25% fewer hotel rooms reserved than this time last year. Unless this trend reverses, we will be forced to spend significant amounts of money compensating the hotel for empty sleeping rooms—money we would much rather spend on things like grants to philosophers and philosophy programs.
If you haven't booked your room, I urge you to do so by next week. The APA conference rate ($179 plus applicable taxes and fees) is valid through at least December 15. If you've booked a hotel elsewhere (or are contemplating that option), I urge you to reconsider.
Act now! Register for the 2016 Eastern Division meeting before the advance rates expire!
