The American Philosophical Association is now accepting nominations for APA leadership positions for terms beginning July 1, 2017. The nominations system will accept nominations for committee membership as well as for the position of member-at-large of the board of officers.

There are member vacancies on all twenty APA committees, as well as vacancies for associate chair positions on six committees. There is one vacancy for member-at-large of the board of officers. Most terms are three years in length.

To see the full list of vacancies, and for more information, sign in to the nominations system using your APA member credentials.

Please note that both nominators and nominees must be APA members. Self-nominations are welcome, and members may nominate or be nominated as many times as they wish.

Nominations will only be accepted through the online nominations system. Do not submit nominations via email, phone, or postal mail. The deadline for nominations is October 31.

Service on the board of officers or an APA committee is a significant opportunity for leadership in the profession and the association, and we encourage you to take the time to nominate qualified candidates for these important positions.

Visit the online nominations system.

I hope that comrades and friends opposed to the New Code of Conduct for Professional Philosophers will consider running for office. I can not imagine that any sane Philosopher wishes to teach with this Sword of Damocles hanging over their head every minute. Historically, I would compare it to the edict of Justinian and Theodora in 529 closing down Plato's Academy. They also thought they were bringing an enlightened new era to the world and instead brought, as Laura's lover, Petrach, noted, "the Dark Ages." Cinematically speaking, I think we find ourselves outside Discover One when this exchange takes place. Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL. HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that. Dave Bowman: What's the problem? HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL? HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
