Pre-Conference on Themes in Transformative Experience

This year’s meeting features a day-long pre-conference on Themes in Transformative Experience on Tuesday, April 11. Transformative experience is a new area of research in philosophy that raises questions in epistemology, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and aesthetics. An experience can be epistemically transformative by transforming some of your core values or preferences. The workshop aims to explore the connections between transformative experience and topics in a range of areas in philosophy.

Keynote presentations will be given by Shamik Dasgupta (“How to Be Authentic”), Trenton Merricks (“Identity, Self, and Transformation”), and Sarah Moss (“Probabilistic Knowledge and Transformative Experience”). Other invited speakers include Nomy Arpaly, Katalin Balog, John Campbell, Josh Dever, Martin Glazier, Amy Kind, Jennifer Lackey, Enoch Lambert, Carloa Merino-Rajme, Barbara Montero, Nick Riggle, Raul Saucedo, Meghan Sullivan, and Evan Thompson. The full pre-conference schedule is available on the APA website and also in the APA Pacific Division meeting app.

There is no cost to attend the pre-conference, but we ask participants to register (a separate registration from the main meeting) so that we have a head count for the evening reception and party.
