The American Philosophical Association, along with the University of Delaware's philosophy department, is pleased to announce the fourth annual APA Lecture, “Values and Evolving Standards: Why There’s More to Subjective Well-Being Than What We Want Most,” to be presented by Valerie Tiberius (University of Minnesota). The APA Lecture will be held at the University of Delaware campus on Friday, November 17.

Valerie Tiberius is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Minnesota, an institution she has been affiliated with since 1998. She has published numerous reviewed papers, as well as two books: The Reflective Life: Living Wisely With Our Limits and Deliberation about the Good: Justifying What We Value. Tiberius’s work has focused on ethics and moral psychology, with a special interest in applying Humean principles to modern philosophical questions. Much of her work has taken a practical, empirical approach to philosophical questions, aiming to show how philosophy and psychology can meaningfully improve lives.

The American Philosophical Association is the leading philosophical learned society in North America, having been founded in 1900 and representing nearly 10,000 members. The APA and the University of Delaware have a long-standing relationship dating back to 1975, when the APA established its national office on the UD campus. Thanks to the university's generosity, the APA has been proud to be part of the UD community for the last four decades.

This November, the APA board of officers will hold its annual in-person meeting in Newark, DE, bringing more than 25 prominent philosophers to campus. In coordination with that meeting, Professor Tiberius, past president of the APA Central Division, will present the fourth annual APA Lecture to benefit the UD community and to celebrate the APA's 42nd year on campus.

We hope you will join us for the lecture and discussion!
