Values and Evolving Standards: 2017 APA Lecture to be given by Central Division past president Valerie Tiberius

NEWARK, Del. — Oct. 27, 2017 — The American Philosophical Association (APA), along with the University of Delaware’s philosophy department, is pleased to announce the fourth annual APA Lecture, “Values and Evolving Standards: Why There’s More to Subjective Well-Being Than What We Want Most,” to be presented by Valerie Tiberius (University of Minnesota). The APA Lecture will be held on the University of Delaware campus on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. in Kirkbride lecture hall, room 100. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Tiberius is professor of philosophy at the University of Minnesota, an institution she has been affiliated with since 1998. She has published numerous reviewed papers, as well as two books—The Reflective Life: Living Wisely With Our Limits and Deliberation about the Good: Justifying What We Value. Much of her work has taken a practical, empirical approach to philosophical questions, trying to show how these disciplines can improve the world for the better.

The APA and the University of Delaware have a long-standing relationship dating back to 1975, when the APA established its national office on the UD campus. Thanks to the university’s generosity, the APA has been proud to be part of the UD community for the last four decades. This November, the APA board of officers will hold its annual in-person meeting in Newark, DE, bringing more than 25 prominent philosophers to campus. In coordination with that meeting, Professor Tiberius, past president of the APA Central Division, will present the fourth annual APA Lecture to benefit the UD community and to celebrate the APA’s 42nd year on campus.
