Earlier this year, the American Philosophical Association received a petition asking the association to establish a code of conduct for professional philosophers. On the recommendation of the committee on the status and future of the profession, which reviewed the petition, the APA board of officers has authorized a task force to explore whether such a code of conduct is warranted and, if so, to develop one for board approval.

Cheshire Calhoun, whose term as APA board chair began today, has appointed the following APA members to the task force:

Nancy Holland, chair (Hamline University)
Scott Anderson (University of British Columbia)
Leslie Francis (University of Utah)
Ned Markosian (Western Washington University)
Diane Michelfelder (Macalester College)
Julinna Oxley (Coastal Carolina University)
Sally Scholz (Villanova University)
Yolonda Wilson (Howard University)

The task force will provide a progress report for the board of officers to review at its meeting in November 2014.

Good Morning! Congrats for getting folks together on this important topic :-) Good luck and I look forward to results :-) So glad to see this committee finally forming! (1) Cheshire, is there any chance we can get American Indian representation on this committee? (2) Also, recommend folks take a look at Susana Nuccetelli's theoretical article on Latin American Ethics. Just a thought. (3) And, Larry May had an article years ago in the '80's about accountability for supervisors---his argument showed up in a later, I think it was US Supreme Ct ruling, and became law that folks pretty much follow today, to the extent they do....don't have that site, but Susana's article can be viewed online at: http://web.stcloudstate.edu/sinuccetelli/Latin_American_Ethics.pdf thanks folks, Anne Schulherr Waters :-)
