How to Advertise a Vacancy

  • To Place an ad in our JFP (Job For Philosophers):

  • Please read the five APA Board Statements (in the gray panel immediately to the left) and ensure that your hiring practices, including your ads, comply with both the spirit and the letter of these APA Board Statements.

  • Register for An Account. You will need to create a one-time Username and Password in order to submit a JFP ad. *Please note, the username/password you create for a JFP account is NOT the same username/password that is used for APA membership. The JFP and APA membership username/passwords are for separate accounts.* Please create a Username and Password that is easy to remember, as you will need to use it each time you want to submit a JFP ad request. If you experience any problems with registering for an account, please contact Evonda Acevedo by e-mail at: eacevedo@udel.edu or by phone at (302) 831-2012.

  • *Please note* If your institution is overseas, for the state, you must select OS.
  • *Please note* when submitting JFP ad text, if your ad text contains a hyperlink encased in “< >” (<http://apaonline.org>) it will cause a security error on the web server, this is because malicious code can be embedded in the text and the web server disallows it. This most often happens when text containing a hyperlink is copied from an editor like Microsoft Word and pasted directly into the ad text field. When it is submitted, the offending text causes the web server to reject it as a security violation. If you are cutting and pasting test in the ad text field, you should not copy text from an editor like Microsoft Word and paste it directly into the ad text field. If the text is first pasted into an application like Notepad (or any ASCII text editor), all the behind the scenes formatting is removed from the copied text. The text may be copied from Notepad and then pasted into the ad text field without problems and will not generate a Webmaster error.

  • The application deadline in your ad must be at least two weeks after the publication date of the issue of JFP in which the ad appears. This is to ensure that all interested parties have enough time to submit their application materials. If no deadline is listed, the position must be held open for at least one month after the publication date of JFP.

  • While notices will be accepted stating that an employer has a special interest in receiving applications from women or members of minority groups, no notice will be accepted which suggests that others will not also be considered in filling the vacancy.

  • Departments are asked to treat inquiries and applications as confidential.

  • Vacancies will not appear in subsequent issues of JFP unless specifically requested.

  • You should expect to receive Confirmation of your request at the end of your on-line submission. If you do not receive confirmation after submitting your ad, please contact Evonda Acevedo (eacevedo@udel.edu) to confirm our receipt of your submission and its appearance.
