Copy Policies and Fees
- All requests for copies must be made using a Permission
Request for Copies or Reprints form
(pdf) (html). Submit the form
by regular mail or fax. Phone and email permission requests are not accepted.
- Most requests are handled within 5 to 7 business days
after we receive the completed request form.
- Any material published by The APA for which The APA
holds copyright (e.g., Presidential Addresses, lectures, committee reports, articles
from APA Newsletters) may be reproduced for personal
use by students, faculty members, or libraries, in single copy only,
without charge.
- Such materials may be copied by individuals, libraries,
agencies or other institutions for a fee (payable to the APA) based on the following
scale:

Important Exceptions:
- The author(s) of any material for which The APA holds
copyright may make multiple copies without charge.
- When the material is available from the APA as a booklet,
the material is to be purchased as a booklet. Permission to make multiple copies
will not be granted. Rather, multiple copies may be purchased from the APA (see
Directory of Publications for available
materials).
Reprint Policies and Fees
- All requests for permission to reprint materials for
which The APA holds copyright must be made using a Permission Request for Copies
or Reprints form (pdf)
(html). Submit the form by regular mail
or fax. Phone and email permission requests are not accepted.
- Most requests are handled within 5 to 7 business days
after we receive the completed request form.
- Materials for which The APA holds copyright may be
reprinted in other published works only with the written permission
of The APA and for a fee of $20.00 per published page. Permission will not
be granted until full payment is received. Exception: The APA
permits the author to reprint the article at no charge and without asking permission
from the APA.
- Half of the amount of the permission fees will be
forwarded to the author(s).
- Proper acknowledgement must be given to The APA for
material reprinted from any of its publications. A copyright and credit line to
accompany the article will be provided when permission to reprint the article is
granted.
- One complimentary copy of the publication containing
the reprinted article will be supplied to The APA within one month of the initial
publication date.
