Proceedings and Addresses of the APA

This annual publication includes the annual presidential addresses and prize lectures, memorial minutes, and member awards.

Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA)

In partnership with Cambridge University Press (CUP), the APA publishes the Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA), a new general philosophy journal appearing quarterly.


Only APA members are eligible to serve on the APA's twenty committees.

Voting Privileges

Regular members (including emeritus members) affiliated with a division of the APA are entitled to vote on divisional and association matters.

Paper Submission and Presentation

Only APA members are eligible to submit papers for consideration on the divisional meeting programs.


Only APA members are eligible for most APA prizes and fellowships, and nominations for most prizes are accepted from APA members only..


The APA grant fund accepts proposals from APA members only. Grant funds include the Small Grant Fund, the Diversity and Inclusiveness Fund, and more.

Meeting Discounts

APA members receive discounted registration and hotel rates for the three annual divisional meetings.

The APA posts news articles about the work and achievements of members on Twitter and Facebook.

Blog of the APA

The Blog of the APA delivers news and commentary on current philosophy, highlights the work of APA members, and provides a forum for discussion of topics and books of interest to philosophers.


Each year, over 3,000 philosophers come to APA meetings to attend sessions and lectures, catch up with colleagues, and visit the exhibit hall. APA members receive a registration discount, but the meeting is open to all philosophers.


The APA is active in the defense of professional rights of philosophers. It advocates for part-time and under-employed philosophers and for philosophers whose professional rights are at risk, and it provides assistance to departments threatened by lack of institutional support.
