Marina Folescu Awarded the 2017–2018 Edinburgh Fellowship

NEWARK, Del. — Feb. 3, 2017 — The American Philosophical Association is pleased to announce that Dr. Marina Folescu (University of Missouri) has been awarded the 2017–2018 Edinburgh Fellowship.

The APA sponsors one visiting research fellowship per year at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh. The APA fellow has a private office in the Institute, is a member of the Institute's lively research community, and has full borrowing rights at Edinburgh University Library.

Folescu is an assistant professor in the philosophy department at the University of Missouri, specializing in history of modern philosophy and philosophy of mind and language. She has published several journal articles, book chapters, and an encyclopedia article. Folescu received her Ph.D. in philosophy in 2013 from the University of Southern California. Before starting graduate school in philosophy, she studied art history in Bucharest, Romania, and London, Canada.

The selection committee said, "Marina Folescu is an up-and-coming young scholar, working on central issues in the philosophy of Thomas Reid. Folescu's project will both expand our understanding of Reid, one of the most important philosophers of the Scottish Enlightenment (a core area of research at IASH), and illuminate Reid's continuing contribution to discussions in the philosophy of mind."
