The APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy (CTP) and the American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT) invite proposals for Teaching Hub sessions at the 2018 Eastern Division meeting in Savannah, GA, January 3–6, and the 2018 Pacific Division meeting in San Diego, CA, March 28–April 1.

The AAPT-APA Teaching Hub is a series of interactive workshops and conversations designed specifically for philosophers and created to celebrate teaching within the context of the APA divisional meetings. Jointly organized by the CTP and the AAPT, the Teaching Hub aims to offer a range of high-quality and inclusive development opportunities that address the teaching of philosophy at all levels, pre-college through graduate school.

This year, we are offering a special opportunity for undergraduates. Each Teaching Hub will include a poster session featuring both (1) independent work by undergraduate students and (2) work in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) by faculty. Please consider submitting your own SoTL work to a poster session, asking your students to submit to a poster session, or submitting a proposal for one or more of the following regular sessions:

Eastern Division Meeting

Pacific Division Meeting

  • Teaching Core Texts – Deadline: August 31
This session will present interesting or innovative approaches to teaching Descartes’s work in undergraduate classes.

  • Teaching Philosophy Online – Deadline: September 15
This session will discuss challenges to teaching philosophy in a virtual environment, innovative online teaching strategies, and approaches to teaching specific philosophical texts online.

  • Teaching the Intellectual Virtues – Deadline: September 15
This session will share curricula, course assignments, and classroom strategies for cultivating intellectual virtues in students.

  • Poster Session: SoTL Research by Philosophy Teachers and Independent Research by Undergraduates in Philosophy – Deadline: October 1
This session will include two types of posters: 1) posters by undergraduates featuring the topic of an honors thesis, summer research project, or other independent research project; and 2) posters by faculty or graduate students describing original SoTL research.
