Sadly, the coronavirus pandemic has caused many summer diversity institutes for undergraduate philosophy students to be canceled. Because of this, the APA has organized a webinar for undergraduate members: Underrepresented Perspectives on Pursuing Academic Philosophy.

If you are an undergraduate who was considering attending a diversity institute this summer, or if you’re just interested in hearing about what it’s like to pursue advanced study in philosophy, this event is for you!

And if you are a faculty member, please share this information with your undergraduate students.

The webinar will feature speakers from various diversity institutes and mentorship programs who will share their journeys of pursuing an advanced degree in philosophy: Underrepresented Perspectives on Pursuing Academic Philosophy. Webinar panelists will give brief comments on their own experiences, followed by a Q&A with participants.

The panelists for the webinar are the following:

  • Eyo Ewara, Professor at Loyola University Chicago
  • Andrea J. Pitts, Assistant Professor at UNC Charlotte
  • Soon-Ah Fadness, Associate Professor at San Diego City College

The webinar will be held on Monday, July 27 at 5 p.m. Eastern time / 2 p.m. Pacific time. To participate, click the "Register" button above. Registration will be available until 10 a.m. Eastern time / 7 a.m. Pacific time on the day of the webinar, and access information will be provided to registrants at least one hour prior to the start of the webinar. Registration is limited to current APA members.

The APA invites all to attend, but particularly encourages undergraduate students who are women, students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, and students from low socio-economic backgrounds to participate in this webinar. Please reach out to lucypawliczek@apaonline.org with any questions, and visit the event page for more information.

Space is limited, so register now! If you’re unable to attend the live webinar, a recording will be made available to APA members afterward.
