Today begins the first ever association-wide election in the history of the American Philosophical Association. An amendment to the bylaws last year created three new at-large seats on the APA’s board of officers. Following an open nomination process this summer and deliberations by a nominating committee, ten candidates for these three positions now stand for election.

All full (regular and emeritus) members of the association are eligible to vote, and voting will be open for 30 days, through November 13. As a full member, you may vote on the APA website.

Vote for APA at-large board members now.

If you have not yet renewed your dues for the 2013-2014 academic year, you must do so before you will be able to vote. Online renewal is quick and easy!

The election will be conducted by single transferrable vote, so you must rank the ten candidates in order of your preference.

To effect the staggering of terms, the candidate with the most votes will serve a three-year term on the board, the candidate with the second-most votes will serve a two-year term, and the candidate with the third-most votes will serve a one-year term. The terms will begin on July 1, 2014.

To help inform voters, the candidates have each submitted brief statements highlighting their qualifications, experience, and priorities. I encourage you to read these statements prior to voting.

Once submitted, your votes are final. You will not be able to return to the voting system and change your rankings, so please consider your choices carefully before submitting.

Thank you for participating in the election of these new association leaders!

All the best,

Amy E. Ferrer
