The APA committee on public philosophy seeks nominations for the best op-eds published by philosophers in 2014.

We will honor up to five standout pieces that successfully blend philosophical argumentation with an op-ed writing style. Winning submissions will call public attention, either directly or indirectly, to the value of philosophical thinking. The pieces will be judged in terms of their success as examples of public philosophy, and should be accessible to the general public, focused on important topics of public concern, and characterized by sound reasoning.

Submissions must have been published in 2014 in an op-ed section of a periodical and should be no more than 2,000 words. Blog entries are also eligible. Only one entry per author or nominator is permitted. Self-nominations are welcome.

The nomination deadline for the public philosophy op-ed contest is April 15, 2015. To submit a nomination, fill out the nomination form.

A subset of the committee on public philosophy will evaluate the submissions. Winning authors will receive a $100 award and will be formally recognized at the APA Eastern Division meeting in January 2016.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!

All the best,
