The APA is saddened to note the passing of Dr. William Craig (November 13, 1918 – January 13, 2016), an internationally renowned logician known for proving Craig’s interpolation theorem in 1957. Craig  served as president of the APA Pacific Division in 1978-1979. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1951, and was professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, where he taught from 1961 until his retirement in 1989.

It must have been a slip to describe him as professor emeritus from 1961 until his retirement. Surely he was simply professor, and emeritus from 1989 on. Craig also served as president of the Association for Symbolic Logic. I had a pleasant conversation with him at an ASL meeting in Berkeley in 2011, when he was 92. I will miss him.
