The APA’s board of officers has signed on to the American Historical Association’s statement condemning the Polish law criminalizing references to Polish complicity in Nazi war crimes.

The APA has a longstanding commitment to defend the professional rights of philosophers. The board’s opposition to the Polish law criminalizing public discussion of Polish complicity in Nazi war crimes is in keeping with the APA’s broader support for philosophers whose professional rights are at risk.

In endorsing the statement, the board stands with more than 40 other scholarly societies in recognizing and condemning the threat to freedom of speech, academic freedom, and scholarly inquiry that this law presents to philosophers and scholars across numerous disciplines. The board joins these other societies in calling on the Polish government to reconsider this law.
