A number of undergraduate diversity institutes in philosophy are now accepting applications for their 2018 sessions. These institutes operate independent of one another, but they share the overarching goal to encourage and support undergraduates from underrepresented groups in philosophy. Each institute normally accepts 10–20 students per year.

The following institutes are now accepting applications:

COMPASS at University of Michigan — September 27–30, 2018. Application deadline: April 15, 2018.

PSP2: Summer Program for Underrepresented Groups in Philosophy of Science — July 16–20, 2018. Application deadline: March 1, 2018.

Rutgers Summer Institute for Diversity of Philosophy — July 8–15, 2018. Application deadline: May 4, 2018.

UCSD SPWP: Summer Program for Women in Philosophy — July 31–August 8, 2018. Application deadline: March 1, 2018.

SIPP@Brown: Summer Immersion Program in Philosophy at Brown University — July 8–21, 2018. Application deadline: March 1, 2018.

Undergraduates and recent graduates from underrepresented groups, including women, African Americans, Chicano/as and Latino/as, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, LGBTQ individuals, those from economically disadvantaged communities, and people with disabilities, are urged to apply.

If you’re an undergraduate, we encourage you to consider applying for one of these institutes and to spread the word about these opportunities to your undergraduate student networks.

If you’re a faculty member, we also urge you to spread the word to your undergraduate students, and to consider serving as their sponsor. Faculty sponsors mentor students, helping them to prepare their applications, and, when possible and appropriate, work with the students after the summer institute to help further the gains the students have made.
