About Affiliated Groups

Affiliated groups have the privilege of organizing sessions as part of APA divisional meetings. The APA provides space for such sessions and communicates information about such sessions to meeting attendees through the meeting program and other means as appropriate.

Affiliated groups are independent of the APA and are not subject to its governance, except that the APA may impose conditions on groups for affiliation and the use of meeting space. Sessions organized by affiliated groups, including their content, are the responsibility of the group and not of the APA.

To apply for affiliated group status, a group must be philosophical in nature (including interdisciplinary groups that engage with philosophy) and provide the following:

  • Group name
  • Mission statement
  • Certification of compliance with the APA's Nondiscrimination Statement
  • Contact information for a group representative for each divisional meeting

To apply for affiliated group status, complete the Application for Affiliated Group StatusYou must be an APA member to submit an application.

Group Representatives

A group may have one person serve as the representative for multiple divisions or may have a different representative for each division. However, only one person may be designated as the representative for each division. All group representatives must be APA members.

The group representative is the only person who will receive communications from the division about requesting session space on that division's program. Further, the group representative is the only person authorized to request audiovisual support for the group's sessions at that division's meeting. Groups are responsible for all fees and charges related to audiovisual support for their sessions.
