Proceedings and Addresses of the American Philosophical Association

The Proceedings and Addresses has historically been the primary publication for important news and information about the APA and its activities. In the 2013–2014 membership year, the Proceedings and Addresses transitioned to a single annual print volume rather than five issues per year. The annual volume includes the annual presidential addresses and prize lectures, as well as the memorial minutes and awards; this print volume is mailed in the fall only to those members who subscribe for print mailing. The volume is available online to all members. The divisional meeting programs continue to be printed for distribution at the annual meetings but are no longer mailed in advance. Meeting programs are available online several months before each meeting. All other content previously published in the Proceedings and Addresses, including minutes of board meetings, divisional business meetings, and divisional executive committee meetings, is available online only.

APA Studies

Several APA committees publish high quality, peer-reviewed scholarship in the APA Studies (formerly known as the APA Newsletters). APA Studies are published in the spring and fall. We are currently publishing APA Studies on the following topics:

Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA)

In 2015, the American Philosophical Association partnered with Cambridge University Press (CUP) to launch the Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA), a quarterly general philosophy journal. It is an online-only publication, and APA members receive access to the journal free of charge.

APA Live online events and APA On Demand video library

In APA Live events, a diverse range of philosophers shares expertise and experience on topics that span the profession. More than just a viewing experience, these interactive events provide the opportunity to ask questions and share resources.

If you can't attend a live event, you can find the recorded webinar on the APA On Demand page.

Committees

Only APA members are eligible to serve on the APA's committees.

Voting Privileges

Regular members (including emeritus and graduate student members) affiliated with a division of the APA are entitled to vote on divisional and association matters. Members elect officers of their respective divisions and also vote to approve amendments to the national association and divisional bylaws as well as resolutions.

Paper Submissions

Only APA members are eligible to submit papers for consideration on the divisional programs.

Grants and Prizes

Only APA members are eligible for most APA prizes and fellowships, and nominations for most prizes are accepted from APA members only. APA prizes and fellowships recognize excellence in scholarship in a variety of areas of philosophy and from scholars at all career stages.

The APA regularly funds projects and initiatives beneficial to the philosophical community. The APA grant funds accept proposals from APA members only. The types of funding available are detailed at the links below:

Past funded projects include conferences, workshops, podcasts, mentoring programs, and outreach efforts.
