Proceedings and Addresses of the American Philosophical Association

The Proceedings and Addresses has historically been the primary publication for important news and information about the APA and its activities. Beginning with the 2013-2014 membership year, the Proceedings and Addresses will no longer exist in its previous print format, transitioning to a single annual print volume rather than five issues per year. The annual volume will include the annual presidential addresses and prize lectures, as well as the memorial minutes and awards; this print volume will be mailed in the fall only to those members who subscribe for print mailing. The volume will be available online to all members.

The divisional meeting programs will continue to be printed for distribution at the annual meetings but will no longer be mailed in advance. Meeting programs will, however, be available online several months before each meeting.

All other content previously published in the Proceedings and Addresses, including minutes of board meetings, divisional business meetings, and divisional executive committee meetings, will now be available online only.

Memorial Minutes

The APA has historically published memorial notices for deceased members of the association biannually in the general issues of the Proceedings and Addresses. Beginning with the 2013-2014 membership year, we will publish the memorial minutes in the annual print volume, and we will also publish them online, where they may be accessed by APA members and web content subscribers.

APA Newsletters

The APA newsletters are published online twice a year (fall and spring). Here you will find a complete listing of current newsletter titles. Direct all correspondence concerning newsletter content to the appropriate newsletter editor. Other inquiries may be directed to Erin Shepherd at

Jobs for Philosophers (JFP)

Jobs for Philosophers has long been the industry standard for listing job opportunities relevant to those with a background in philosophy. Jobs for Philosophers is now PhilJobs:Jobs for Philosophers, the fruit of the partnership between the American Philosophical Association and the PhilPapers Foundation. The new site is based upon the combined databases of PhilJobs and Jobs for Philosophers, running on an updated version of the PhilJobs site software. As such, it offers job seekers a powerful and straightforward search experience, while making it easy for employers to list positions. The new PhilJobs:Jobs for Philosophers website also takes advantage of the international standing of PhilJobs and is affiliated with Western University, the Institute of Philosophy, and the Australian National University. Here you can find volumes of Jobs for Philosophers prior to October 1, 2012.

Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA)

The American Philosophical Association is partnering with Cambridge University Press (CUP) to launch the Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA), a new general philosophy journal appearing quarterly beginning in 2015. It will be a primarily online publication, with print being available widely at first and by request thereafter. The journal will be provided to all APA members free of charge.

2012 Guide to Graduate Programs in Philosophy

The American Philosophical Association is pleased to present the 2012 edition of the Guide to Graduate Programs in Philosophy, which contains information about PhD, MA, and equivalent degree programs in the United States. The purpose of this volume is to provide prospective philosophy graduate students and others with basic information about the opportunities in North America for professional training in philosophy. While this volume is a useful starting point for prospective graduate students, a comprehensive inquiry should also include consultation with advisors and people directly involved with programs of interest.
